Erin Bachman, LSW, LADC, Program Manager at The Gables, contributed background and first-hand insights for a KIMT3 television new segment raising awareness about the challenges of addictive disorders affecting women. This story draws attention to the ongoing addiction and overdose epidemics nationally and locally. Bachman cites a lack of federal and state resources as an underlying problem preventing people from accessing treatment and recovery-supportive services.
The Gables, which provides comprehensive medium-intensive residential treatment for women, will celebrate 40 years of continuous operation in June. While demand for high-quality treatment, which coordinates services to address substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders and trauma, is high, a lack of resources nationwide prevents women from getting the help they need in a timely manner. Waiting for treatment can lead to more acute disease and complications, including legal and medical problems resulting from living with active addiction.
