Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt visited the NUWAY III residential program for people identifying as women. Sheriff Witt took the opportunity to share her personal and professional experiences and to discuss community relations between law enforcement professionals and members of the public. Many NUWAY Alliance clients, and numerous individuals and families affected by substance use and mental health disorders, have experiences with law enforcement and the judicial system. Efforts to increase communication and understanding between law enforcement officials and the public are important in helping people in need find treatment instead of incarceration and reducing cycles of addiction and incarceration.
